Google Announces Android Market
Today Google announced the Android Market, which will be an open content distribution system where users can find, purchase, download and install content on their Android-powered phones. Google will host the service and allow developers to use it to get their applications into the hands of end users. It will have a rating and feedback system similar to YouTube. Google says the process for getting content into the Android Market has only three steps: register as a merchant, upload and describe the app/service and publish it. The Android Market will be a beta feature on the first wave of Android handsets. Google says decisions about how it will function are still being made, so it is not yet a final product. Google expects the market to offer free and paid content. Google will finalize the market after Android officially launches, and provide a software update to the first wave of phones. iPhone Factory Girl Is Now A Celebrity

Remember the iPhone factory girl? It seems that sheâs become quite a celebrity now, though she apparently isnât enjoying the fame and attention that sheâs getting. Her bosses have even assured her that her job is safe, and that the company would not release her name or any details, though users on the Internet will probably find out her name sooner or later. The picture was taken when her co-worker took her picture to test the camera, and forgot to delete it. Of course, it isnât anything too serious, and users are even having some fun, with some stating that it would be great is every Chinese worker snaps a shot of themselves with the iPhone that theyâre assembling, so users will know who assembled their iPhones.

Garmin Nuvifone Shows Up Again

It seems like itâs been forever since Garminâs Nuvifone was first announced, and unfortunately, it doesnât look like weâre any closer to seeing an actual product launch. The folks over at Engadget managed to snag a couple of shots of a Garmin repâs Nuvifone prototype, but thatâs about as close as anybody will be getting to the real phone at the moment, and seeing how the Nuvi crashed when asked for a demonstration, it looks like it might be a while more before we see this in retail stores. Hopefully Garmin will be able to keep their promise and get this thing out in 2009, though if they fail to do so, there is always 2010, if people are still interested that is.

Orange Has Been Throttling iPhone 3G

If youâre in France and feel that your iPhone 3G is browsing the net rather slowly, you might want to glare in Orangeâs direction. While they may not like to admit certain things, they have seen fit to admit that theyâve been throttling the iPhone 3Gâs speed in France. While users in Germany can happily hit 1.8Mbps on their iPhone, users in France rarely seem to hit 400Kbps, which sure doesnât sound too fun. The good news is that Orange has promised that they will increase 3G data speeds to 1Mbps on September 15th. Should they be forgiven for their throttling? Only time (and their subscribers) will tell.

More Ways To Waterproof Your Phone

Plasma Product Innovation has recently demonstrated a chemical process, called âion maskingâ, which can make devices completely waterproof. The technology was introduced for use in the UK military, but it is now being offered to consumers, and has made its way to products such as waterproof hiking boots and running shoes. This looks quite similar to the results of the Golden Shellback deal a while ago, and if the trend keeps up, it looks like weâll all be swimming with our waterproof phones underwater in the near future.
